Public Consultation Tutorial

with Desmond M. Connor

What is public consultation?
How do you deal with protest groups?

Are you ready for the challenges of the new millennium? If you are spending more of your time and resources on reacting to public conflict and crisis, instead of constructively preventing controversy, here is help from Desmond M. Connor, a leader in preventing and resolving public controversy.

The Tutorial Concept

A tutorial in my office, at a time convenient for you, is a distinct improvement on having to wait for the annual workshop I used to offer in September or October. In this time of tight budgets and travel restrictions, you can schedule the tutorial for when you might be visiting Victoria for other reasons. Year round access might also interest some who visit Victoria as tourists or snowbirds.

Benefits

  • understand the concept of constructive citizen participation

  • gain insights into the changing social climate and why people resist change

  • discover a strategy to prevent and resolve public controversy by activating the usually silent majority

  • learn eight practical techniques to implement this strategy

  • find out how to convince senior management of the need for public consultation

Who will benefit?

Project managers, planners, policy makers, technical specialists, communications managers

Format

  • One week before your tutorial, you will receive a copy of my Public Participation Manual (38 pp.) and my 25-minute instructional video on loan to review, make notes on and formulate questions about.

  • Two days before our meeting, email or fax me a brief biographical note about yourself, a summary about your organization, a list of your main questions or concerns about public consultation, and a description of a forthcoming project or issue for which you would like to develop a public consultation program.

  • On the day and time of your choice, we will meet in my office for two hours, address your questions and develop a public consultation program for your project or issue, drawing on relevant cases and project materials from my files on some 300 past programs.

  • Within a week, you will complete a one-page evaluation and may call me with a few questions, etc.

Registration

$295; prepaid; Two persons from the same organization = $495
